My weight is something I have always struggled with. I have never been thin or slim even as a child I was over-weight. When I was a child and a young teenager it didn’t bother me as much. Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t happy with how I looked or what number the scales said but I didn’t let it get to me. However once I all my other friends started getting boyfriends and I started to want a relationship it became a bigger issue for me. Even when Joe and I started our relationship I was still so self-conscious and I really didn’t believe that he could like me let alone actually love me. After a while I became so comfortable with him and we’re such foodie people that we have both put on weight over the 6 years we’ve been together. I have tried to lose weight on and off for so long and I have never stuck to any kind of diet. I don’t really enjoy going to the gym so that doesn’t help. My mom has been doing slimming world for a while and my dad has also been going for a couple years and I have heard good things about it so I decided once I got uni out the way I would join.
I was so nervous to join as I didn’t really know what it was like and I didn’t know anyone there. At first I thought it seemed difficult to understand what I could eat for example what is a healthy extra and what are speed foods, but reading through the book a few times really helped. The weighing part of the meeting was a difficult for me as I was a lot heavier than when I last weighed myself however this just motivated me to lose weight. I told Joe all about it when I got home and he said he could see that I was actually excited to start this new lifestyle and I did actually tell him how much I weighed which was a big deal for me. I have never told anyone how much I weigh.
I joined 31st May and I am so glad I did.
In my first week I lost 7.5 pounds!!! I was shocked that I lost that much in my first week and I got my ½ stone award. Then in my second week I lost another 5.5 pounds, I nearly lost a stone in just two weeks. My weight loses have become smaller each week but that was expected. Every week since I have joined I have lost week expect 4 weeks, two I maintained, two I gained (one week was after our holiday I put on 4 pounds but the week after I lost 4.5 pounds. The other time I just ate badly and put half a pound on but then lost 2.5 the week after)
My experience with slimming world is amazing. I love going each week, even when I’m unsure of how I’ve done I love going to the group. The people in my group are lovely and always share useful tips and recipes. In 6 months I have lost 3 stone 8.5 pounds, won slimmer of the week 3 times and I won woman of the year in my group. I was so shocked when I found out I was named woman on the year for our group as they were so many other amazing women who deserved it. It’s really gave me the motivation to keep going, keep losing weight to get down to my goal weight.
I would highly recommend slimming world to anyone who wants to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle as it really does work and it really isn’t that restricting on what you can eat.
